After getting some inspiration from others, i have decided to give some life to this empty blog which have been around for some time. What's going on in my life right now shall be show shortly. Schools have started for most of my friends, a new education year, new semester, new faces to be with. Heard from some of them that orientation was fun, interesting and many more. So sad that through my 3 years in Ngee Ann Polytechnic I have only attended the Orientation held for me and i went for 3 out of the 5 days. Second year of Polytechnic education was mainly busy with my own stuff that i can't be bother to participate in some schools activity. Third year miss out the opportunity as i was posted to attachment, can't join the Orientation too what a waste, miss out a chance to hit on new Ngee Ann hot chicks. That ah siao Leslie, got the best SCO and best orientation group, power man and now he is out on his kinky trip overseas.
Starting on my attachment experience over at Foo Kon Tan GrantThornton now. So far i have start to work for 7 weeks which is 35 days , many more to come. Some background information about my company that i am in, Foo Kon Tan GrantThornton was first establish in 1973 as Foo Kon Tan founded by these 3 guys name Mr Foo, Mr Kon and Mr Tan currently one of them is dead the other 2 retired and Mr Kon son join the company followed by 9 other partners. It then join GrantThornton which is an international audit company which has several other office all over the world. So it is quite a big company actually, locally ranked big six i suppose. One out of the many things i dislike about the company is the office location, although it is located at city hall but the building it is in is really terrible; Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry the office we are in looks so run down, not like those others company where the view out of the window is so stunning and the office environment feels great, make you want to work longer. Over at Foo Kon Tan it is the opposite, 6pm sharp i will leave the office immediately breath the fresh air outside. For the past 1 month i have been in the bookkeeping department, transfered there due to the department being shorthanded and there is no job on hand for us at the audit department. Along with me who got transferred was Ying Wei. She is a girl from another semester, i am from 1.2 she is from 1.1 by the way there are 4 interns attached to FKTGT, Ying Wei, Yi Xuan they are both from 1.1 and there is Samantha from 1.2.
Join on the 3rd of march, we were given a tour around the company and some introduction basically the whole SCCCI seems to be occupy by FKTGT, audit department is on the 4th level, tax department on the 5th level, human resource department on the 5th level as well, book keeping department on the 6th level, payroll accounting department on the 6th level as well. i rotted in the company for a week before starting work on monday, for the entire week we had nothing to do except for a day where i went out for cash count which is rather easy and simple audit job. Cash count is to go to those clubs or recreation centre and audit them taking all those jackpots winning see them count the number of 1 dollar coins. It is quite alot of money actually like during one cash count which we usually do every week or two week once, the winning can actually be enough to buy a car! They will have this machine which counts all the coins and then pack them into bags of 1000 coins in each bag. interesting process i would say. thats about cash count, we got to prepare the working papers, brings the labels and then there is the meter reading and the actual reading. Where meter reading is taken from the machine meter counting the number of coins slotted in and actual is the the actual as it say counting the number of coins inside the slot machine using this super fast machine which counts i think 15 coins in a second. The difference between these 2 readings cannot be more then 1% of the coins amount, if there is then got to check it out. Simple audit. For the 2nd week i was post to bookkeeping department as said, got to go over to the client's place which is located so far from my house over at Pandan Road, which is somewhere near clementi and west coast that area. Good thing though is that we start work at 9.30am and ends at 5.30pm where 5.30 sharp there will be this bus waiting outside to send us to Clementi MRT. Bookkeeping is all about preparing the audit schedule before the auditors come, so there is the 3 of us, Joyce the one teaching us what to do and stuff, Yingwei and myself, simple plain job of data entry from the clients record into the excel, then the auditors they are actually also from FKTGT so i have helped them to audit as well, but i am not auditing my own work, my work is only the audit schedule. Vouching is basically the crucial and important part of audit but it is also the super boring job, where you just have to run through the receipts or bank statement or invoices or whatever to find the thing you need to find, boring! so over at the clients place lunch is really boring, where they would help you ta bao food and the food you don't know what they have so for me default if i don't know what to eat = chicken rice. i think most guys are like that, when you have no idea of what to eat is then = chicken rice. lunch time is like 1.15 to 2.15 an hour time where sit at the pantry talk a bit relax. Good thing about being at the client place would be you need not face the boss or manager or partners. You feel more relax, take things at your own pace. play some games at times and we had this addictive game of ZUMA, you guys can search it and try quite fun something like puzzle bubble. i stayed in the bookkeeping department for 1 month and this is roughly what i have done, looking through the accounts and having data entry, seeing those exchange loses etc etc. work has been what i say so far so good but tiring now i am back in audit and on job shall talk about it another time after i finish the entire audit job.
